Satan

As a Christian, you have been taught to believe that Satan, also known as the Devil and Lucifer, is a character in the Christian religion that is known as the "Evil One".   Satan is said to be the Deceiver and thought to be the source of all pain and suffering on the earth.  He goes around tempting people to do evil things that the Bible refers to as sin.  Satan is the opposite of all things good and holy.  He is said to be a fallen angel who rebelled against God in Heaven but has been cast out and given the authority by God to have power over the earth and the other fallen angels known as Demons.  In 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) it reads "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking someone to devour."  Satan is always out roaming the earth looking for souls to steal.  He doesn't want people to go to heaven and live eternally with God when they die, instead he wants people to go where he resides in Hell.  Where did this character known as Satan come from?  Was Satan invented so that superstitious people will believe in the Christian God and the Holy Bible in hopes of going to heaven when they die?  Do you really think that you'll spend all of eternity burning in hell with Satan if you don't believe in God?  Could it be that he's just a mythical character invented to make people believe in God and become a part of the Christian religion?
